Professional Development
Preventing Literacy Difficulties (PLD)® professional development aims to equip parents and educators with specialized knowledge and techniques so that children's learning and literacy difficulties can either be prevented or more effectively managed. PLD focuses upon the key areas that have been associated with literacy and academic achievement.
The professional development topics include:
- Developing Foundation Sklls in the Early Years: a kindergarten and pre-primary focus
- Developing Early Literacy Skills: a year 1, 2 and 3 focus
- Managing and Minimising Literacy Difficulties
The Presenters
Diana Rigg BA (Ed), BEd, CPP (UK), MEd, MSc (SpPath)
Diana combines post graduate speech pathology and education qualifications with extensive experience working with children and schools. This provides a practical and innovative approach. One of Diana’s greatest strengths is her affinity with teachers and her ability to inspire, educate and equip teachers with specialized techniques, programs and assessment tools. In essence Diana aims to facilitate teachers’ ability to cater for the specific and developmental needs entering schools.
Bridget Scott BAppSc (OT)
Bridget has over 20 years experience working with children with a range of learning and developmentatl difficulties. She has worked in both the public and private sectors alongside families, teachers and other therapy and teaching staff. Bridget is passionate about communities supporting children to grow into confident and passionate individuals. She believes everyone learns best when they feel good about themselves and there efforts. She enjoys working co-operatively with families and teachers to help children achieve their potential and aims to creat happy, safe and relaxed environments.
Lisa Edenburg BSc(Psych), MSc(SpPath)
Lisa has worked as speech pathologist for a number of years within the education and disabilities sectors throughout Australia and United Kingdom. Her education in Speech Pathology and Psychology allows her to consider a child's global performance and functioning to maximise their performance and academic success. Throughout her career Lisa has worked within schools and alongside teacher to develop language and literacy programs that can be incorporated into classrooms on a daily basis.
