About PLD
PLD is a preventative early intervention organisation, in which specific disciplines such as Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists work in conjunction with parents and teachers to prevent or minimise the impact of delayed developmental skills on the early educational status of children.
PLD Organisation disseminates its expertise through 3 interrelated divisions:
PLD Learning Resources
The publishing division produces essential, research-based and tested learning resources created by specialist Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Educators. Ready to use and highly functional, PLD's resource range employs a user friendly strategy to foster the development of oral language, perceptual motor and literacy skills.
PLD Learning Consultancy
PLD Learning Consultancy equips the Health and Education Sectors, and parents with quality research-based professional development and instructions. It is focused on the implementation of programs, techniques and procedures which facilitate literacy-based outcomes.
Professional Development
To support the implementation and understanding of programs along with literacy, language, gross and fine motor development PLD offers professional development to education staff. A range of courses are conducted throughout Western Australia’s metropolitan and country areas. These courses aim to provide teachers with the skills to assess and implement whole class language, literacy and gross/fine motor programs. They also aim to provide teachers with information regarding normal development and to recognise when it may be necessary to
refer students for specialised intervention.
School Based Services
PLD also offers schools with the option of in house professional development for staff and parent nights. Schools can also access a more individual service to suit their needs and assist in the development of a school literacy and language policy through School Based Coaching.
School Screening
PLD has developed a screening package for schools. This provides schools with the option of whole class screening of students by a Speech Pathologist to identify students who may be experiencing difficulty with their language and literacy development. The screening includes assessment of the children, a written report, parent night to explain the process to parents and professional development for the classroom teacher.
PLD Learning Centre
The Learning Centre provides specialised, private Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy services for infants to 10 years. The Centre's distinctive cross-discipline model of operation maximises positivie outcomes for students. The centre focuses on:
- Pre and early literacy skill development in conjunction with traditional Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy service delivery
- The functional requirements of the classroom
- The implications of unaddressed speech, language and motor development on short and long-term academic functioning.
Parents concerned with their child's development may make appointments with the clinic for assessments and specialised programs administered by Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists.
